IIT Ropar: The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar, or IIT Ropar, was established in 2008 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The college is located in Ropar, Rupnagar, Punjab, and is one of the eight new IITs. NIRF has ranked IIT Ropar 22nd in Engineering for the year 2023.

The institute consists of 11 departments offering UG, PG, and PhD courses, along with 1 multi-disciplinary centre and 1 DST Technology Innovation Hub. IIT Ropar is recognised as an Institute of National Importance and is affiliated with UGC and AICTE.

The institute offers exceptional education and research in its flagship course, B.Tech. Admission to all courses is done through national-level exams. The Highest package for the year 2022 was recorded at INR 50 LPA.

The institute admits students to over 30 courses in undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in the fields of engineering, technology, science, and the humanities. The college also offers integrated courses. Admission to all the courses at the college is based on entrance exams.

Admission to the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar is based on a national-level entrance exam, followed by counselling.The courses and the exam you are required to pass to qualify for IIT Ropar are given below:

• B.E./B.Tech – JEE Mains + JEE Advanced + JOSAA Counseling.
• M.E./M.Tech – GATE + COAP Counseling.
• M.Sc – IIT-JAM/CCMN Counseling.
• Ph.D. –  UGC NET/ CSIR NET or GATE + written test + PI.

Cut-off

JoSAA will release the B.Tech cutoff for the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar during the counselling on the basis of JEE Advanced ranks and scores. The cutoffs for M.Tech. and M.Sc. seats are declared through COAP and CCMN counselling, respectively.

The cutoff for the college is decided on the basis of the rank of the student, total number of applicants, seats available, difficulty level of the paper, etc. Candidates are also required to hold a percentage prescribed by the institute in the 12th or equivalent exam or UG exam.

IIT Ropar Ranking & Accreditation

The institute is the second generation of IIT Ropar and is recognised and approved by the UGC and AICTE. NIRF has ranked the institute 22nd for engineering and 33rd overall in India in 2023. The QS World University Rankings has ranked it 351-400 in Asia and 78th in Southern Asia in 2023.

Times Higher Education has ranked the college 501–600 globally and 131st in the Asian University Ranking 2023. Indian Institute of Technology Ropar is also ranked 19th out of 193 colleges for engineering in India by the IIRF in 2023.

IIT Ropar Infrastructure  

The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar is spread across 501 acres in Ropar (also known as Rupnagar) in Punjab. The campus in Ropar is built very near Chandigarh, and candidates can fly into Chandigarh airport and take the National Highway NH-21 to reach the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar campus. Rupnagar Old Bus Stand in Chota Khera is 8 km away from the campus and is the nearest bus station. 

The campus has a main academic block, a central library, a well-equipped lab and research centre, and sports courts equipped for cricket, football, tennis, and basketball.

How to Apply for IIT Ropar 2023

A student is required to register at the institute for admission to any course. Admission to IIT Ropar for the B.Tech. course is done through the cutoff released by JoSAA. A candidate must register and qualify for the JEE Mains and JEE Advance with a rank to make it to the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar. Given below are the details on how to apply to the B.Tech course of your choice at IIT Ropar:

• First, register for JEE Mains through its official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, and qualify.
• Now appear and qualify the JEE Advance with a high rank to be able to be admitted to IIT Ropar. 
• The next step is to register for JOSAA counselling for choice filling. 
• Register with your JEE Mains application number and password, and check the details for any necessary changes. 
• Fill out the name of the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar as your first choice, along with the preferred specialisation. 
• If you get the required cutoff, you will be required to fill out the application form for registration in the institute through its official website.
• Upload all your required documents along with your JEE Advanced scorecard. 
• Submit the application form and pay the application fees. 
• On completion of document verification and fee payment you will be admitted to the institute.
