NIT Jalandhar: The Dr B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, commonly known as NIT Jalandhar (NITJ), is a deemed university in Jalandhar, Punjab. The institute was established in 1987 as the Regional Engineering College and was renamed NIT in 2002. It is a public technical university with AICTE approval and INI status.

The institute consists of over 18 academic departments and 20 centers offering courses in various disciplines of engineering at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. NIRF has ranked the university 46th for engineering in 2023.

The institute offers high-quality education in its flagship course, B.Tech. NIT Jalandhar admits students in all the courses through national-level exams. The highest package in the placement of 2023 stood at INR 1.2 CPA.

The institute offers over 50 courses in UG, PG, Diploma and Ph.D. levels in the disciplines of engineering, management, technology, and science. M.Tech and MBA course seats are available through regular and on a self-sponsored basis.

Entrance Exam 

NIT Jalandhar accepts students through various entrance exams at the national level for admission to all courses. The list of courses offered by the institute and the entrance exam to qualify are as follows:

• B.E./B.Tech – JEE Mains + JoSAA / CSAB Counselling.
• M.E./M.Tech – GATE + CCMT Counseling.
• M.Sc – IIT-JAM+CCMN Counseling.

Cut-off 

JoSAA or CSAB releases the opening and closing ranks in different rounds for B.Tech courses at NITJ. CCMN and CCMT release the cutoffs for M.Sc. and M.Tech., respectively. These cutoffs are available to students on the basis of their scores in JEE Mains, IIT JAM, and GATE and are subject to the total number of seats available, the marks of the student, the number of applicants, the difficulty level of the exam, etc.

A student must hold a minimum percentage as directed by the college as an additional eligibility criterion in the 12th grade or equivalent examination. Here is the list of JoSAA round 2 for B.Tech.

The institute mainly focuses on becoming the leading institution for higher learning by offering world-class education, research, and training in engineering and technology. The MHRD, Government of India, has accredited it as the ‘Institute of National Importance, and IIRF has ranked the NITJ 44th for engineering in 2023. NIRF has ranked the institute 72nd in the overall category and 46th in Engineering in 2023.

The campus covers an area of 154 acres and is located at Grand Trunk Road, Barnala-Amritsar Bypass Road, Jalandhar, Punjab. Major modes of transport well connect the NIT Jalandhar campus. The nearest railway stations are Sura Nussi Railway Station at a distance of 2.4 km, Jalandhar City Railway Station at 12 km, and Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station at 18 km. Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport is 88 km away from the campus.

The NITJ campus has three basic areas: the institution are consisting teaching departments, centers, and administration; the residential area, and the hostel area for students. NIT Jalandhar Popular Course

The institute offers the flagship program B.Tech. at the UG level and M.Tech., M.Sc., and MBA at the PG level. B.Tech. is the most popular and is available in 13 specializations. How to Apply for NIT Jalandhar 2023

A student must qualify JEE Mains for admission to any NIT institute. Here are the steps you need to follow to apply for the B.Tech course at NITJ:

• Register through the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, and qualify for JEE Mains to move on to the next step.
• The second step is JOSAA counseling for choice-filling and admission to NIT.
• Register using your JEE Main application number and password.
• Check the personal information and provide additional information where needed.
• Upload the required documents (JEE Mains scorecard, etc.); and submit the JoSAA form.
• On the next page, fill in the names of the colleges according to your preference, along with the specializations from the list of available options.
• Check for the required rank in NITJ in different rounds of JoSAA.
• On allotment of seats, you are to pay fees to secure your seat.
• Now the document verification round will take place, and on completion, you have to report to the institute and pay the balance fee.

Application Fees

JEE Mains application fee is a compulsory and non-refundable payment made online using the following options: credit card, debit card, net banking, Paytm, or UPI.

NIT Jalandhar Scholarship 2023   

The scholarship programs of the institute are for meritorious students from financially weaker sections. The scholarships are financial benefits in the form of a fee waiver, fee concession, or pocket allowance for students to receive without any worry. These scholarships are as follows:    

• Merit Cum Means Scholarship: scholarship equivalent to 50% tuition fee waiver for students with 6-7 CGPA, 75% tuition fee waiver for students with 7–8 CGPA, and full tuition fee waiver for students with 8 and above CGPA.
• Dr. Partap Singh Memorial Scholarships: A sum of INR 10,000 to top B.Tech. Civil Engineering student and a scholarship of INR 20,000 in each semester to needy student.
• Working Internships in Science and Engineering (WISE) – To 10 B.Tech students in their 5th or 6th semester and for dual degree and integrated program students in their 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th semester to carry out 2-3 month internship at German universities or state-funded research institutes.

NIT Jalandhar Placement   

The campus placement drive for 2023 recorded the highest CTC of INR 1.2 CPA from Amazon Company to a B.Tech student (ECE department). The campus placement for 2023 is in process, and over 150 recruiters have offered placements to 995 students. The campus placement statistic for 2023 showed 950 eligible students in UG and PG programs. Total placement stood at 701 out of the 796 offers.

The placement rate, for now, is 73.79%, and the average package for ECE and CSE, the most popular departments of B.Tech., stood at 18.22 LPA and 17.53 LPA, respectively. 46 Students from NIT Jalandhar got a 2-month internship at Amazon India.
