Chita Rivera’s Cause of Death
Lisa Mordente, the daughter of Rivera, confirmed the death of her mother. Mordente revealed that Rivera is survived by her siblings Julio, Armando, and Lola del Rivero, along with her many nieces, nephews, and friends. Mordente also said that Rivera’s funeral would be private and revealed that her mother passed away due to a brief illness.

Chita Rivera was born on January 23, 1933, in Washington, D.C to a Puerto Rican father, Pedro Julio Rivera, and a Scottish-Italian mother, Katherine Anderson. She grew up in the Latino neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
Rivera is best known for her roles in iconic musicals such as “West Side Story” (1957), where she originated the role of Anita, and “Chicago” (1975), where she portrayed the character of Velma Kelly. She has received multiple Tony Awards for her performances, including Best Leading Actress in a Musical for “The Rink” (1984) and “Kiss of the Spider Woman” (1993).

Chita Rivera has been married three thrice. In 1957 she got married to dancer Tony Mordente. which ended in divorce in 1966. They had a daughter named Lisa Mordente, who followed in her parent’s footsteps and pursued a career in the performing arts.
After her divorce from Mordente, Rivera married producer and director Tony Walton in 1963. However, this marriage also ended in divorce.
Her third marriage was to actor and singer Roger Berlind in 1986. Berlind was a successful Broadway producer, known for productions such as “Amadeus” and “The Book of Mormon.” But Roger Berlind passed away in December 2020.
