Bollywood film industry’s celebrated filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has teamed up with popular streaming service Netflix for his upcoming most talked about spy thriller film Khufiya, which is based on popular espionage novel Escape to Nowhere by Amar Bhushan, who is known for writing other espionage novels like “The Zero- Cost Mission/ The Willy Agent”, “Inside Nepal/The Walk-In”, “Terror in Islamabad”, and “The Willy Agent The Zero Cost Mission”.
The film was announced on Netflix Tudum: A Global Fan Event by Netflix India in September 2021. The shooting began in October the same year and currently the team is shooting the final schedule of the film that began in April 2022 in Canada.
Khufiya Cast & Crew
Directed and produced by Vishal Bhardwaj under the banner of his Vishal Bhardwaj Pictures in association with Netflix, Kufiya is a story about a R&AW operative Krishna Mehra, who is assigned to track down the mole selling India’s defense secret.
The film stars Indian cinema’s one of the most versatile actresses Tabu, whose performance is being praised for the recently released Kartik Aryan starrer horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. She is playing spy Krishna Mehra, who is also grappling with her dual identity as a spy and as a lover.k
Khufiya marks the third collaboration between Tabu and Vishal Bhardwaj after “Maqbool” and “Haider”. Vishal is also producing the film’s music while Farhad Ahmed Dehlvi is the man cranking the camera.
Along with Tabu the film also features “Mirzapur” fame Ali Fazal, Wamiqa Gabbi, recently seen in Modern Love: Mumbai, veteran actor Ashish Vidyarthi, Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhon and Shataf Figar in pivotal roles.

Khufiya OTT Release Date
The makers of the film have not made any official announcement regarding the release date of the film. It will have a directed-to-OTT release on Netflix this year, first glimpse here.

Khufiya Official Teaser
On September 26, 2021, the makers of this spy thriller released the teaser of the film. The 2-minute long teaser opens to the office of India’s External Intelligence Service, where we see the character of Ali Fazal, who seems like a government official casually sitting in his cabin while rain pours outside and a scary and suspicious background music.
We find Ali’ character unlocking a safe and photocopying a top-secret file and it seems whatever this man is doing is illegal and against the nation’s interest. He is the character who is leaking information outside the bureau.
As the teaser comes to an end we hear Tabu’s Voiceover in the backdrop saying “Woh sirf mera nahi, pure desh ka gaddar hai” (He is not just a traitor to me but to the whole country). The intriguing teaser is clearly telling the that this is an another thriller based on Pakistan-backed terrorism.
