She wrote that she suffers from prosopagnosia, which has been diagnosed. She went to say more, she now gets why she has never been able to match faces. It is a mental illness. She has always been embarrassed that she can’t identify people.
What is Prosopagnosia Disease?
Prosopagnosia is a disorder in which it becomes challenging for the affected individual to recognise people’s faces.
“Facial blindness” is the other name given to the disorder. People dealing with the disorder can usually recognise others based on other characteristics, such as their voices, forms, and distinctive traits on their faces and bodies.
Naturally, these characteristics are frequently insufficient for persons affected to recognise other people.
Can Prosopagnosia be cured?
There is no known cure for prosopagnosia, however training programmes are being developed to ensure improving facial recognition while researchers continue to look into the condition’s underlying causes.
Effects of Prosopagnosia on life of a patient
Prosopagnosia can develop in people who have suffered an ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke, brain injury, or mental illnesses such as Alzheimer’s, depression, or schizophrenia.
In addition to the obvious difficulties in recognising others, the disease may complicate a patient’s social life because many of them will struggle to identify their own loved ones, spouses, and friends.
Both acquired and inherited forms of the illness are possible.
Brad Pitt suffer similar symptoms but not officially diagnosed
Pitt recently made a similar statement in a GQ interveiw disclosing his diagnosis of prosopagnosia. He said that he wishes to keep in mind the folks he encounters, he claimed. He is embarrassed he can’t.
Pitt stated that he had not received a formal prosopagnosia diagnosis. He is worried that this made people perceive him as being distant and aloof, unreachable, and self-absorbed because he struggled to remember new individuals and recognise their features.
