Dev Uthani Ekadashi Vrat Katha
There was a king in whose kingdom the citizens were very happy. No one sold food or ate food on Ekadashi day in that state. Everyone used to only have fruits. Once God took the form of beauty to test the king and sat on the roadside. It was then that the king passed by and was amazed at her beauty.
He asked the beauty who she was and why was she sitting here like this? Then God, who was disguised as the beautiful woman, said, “I am disheartened.” I do not know anyone in this city, whom should I ask for help? The king was fascinated by her appearance and said, “You go to my palace and become my queen.”
On this, the woman said I would listen to you but you have to hand over the right of the state to me. I will have full authority over this state and whatever I make, you have to eat. Hearing this, the king said, “I approve of all the conditions.” The next day was Ekadashi but rani ordered that food be sold in the markets as on other days.
Not only that, she cooked meat and fish in the house and served it and asked the king to eat. Seeing this, the king said, Rani, it is Ekadashi today so I will only have fruits. Then the queen reminded the king of her condition and said, “Either eat food, otherwise I will behead the great prince.” When the king told the elder queen about his position, the elder queen said, “Your Highness, don’t give up religion and give the head of the elder prince.”
She said that you will get the son again but will not get your religion back. Meanwhile, the elder prince came playing and saw tears in his mother’s eyes and asked her why she was crying. Mother told him the whole thing. So, the prince said I’m ready to give the head. My father’s religion will definitely be protected.
The king went to the beautiful woman with a sad heart and agreed to give his head. Then Lord Vishnu appeared and said to him, Rajan, this was your test and you passed this difficult test.
When God asked the king with a happy heart to ask for a boon, the king said, “Everything we want in life is already given by you.” At the same time, the king handed over his entire land to the prince and Lord Vishnu left.
