The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has its roots back on 17 October 1987. On that day, over a hundred thousand individuals accumulated at the Trocadéro in Paris, where the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was endorsed in 1948, to respect the casualties of outrageous destitution, viciousness, and craving. They broadcasted that destitution is an infringement of basic freedoms and certified the need to meet up to guarantee that these rights are respected.

  • You can organize a food camp and feed those in need.
  • You can volunteer in awareness camps and do your bit of speaking about this global issue.

  • According to reports, a total of 689 million people are living in extreme poverty, they are surviving with less than 1.90 dollars a day.
  • Two-thirds of the world’s total population are children and youth, women are in majority in most regions.
  • Sub-Saharan African areas have extreme poverty. Almost 40% of people survive on less than 1.90 dollars a day.
  • In the Middle East and North Africa, extreme poverty rates have drastically increased between the years 2015 and 2018, from 3.8% to 7.2%. The reason being the crisis in Yemen and Syria.
  • Multidimensional poverty is seen in almost 644 million children.
  • People above 15 years account for 70% who have no schooling or any education.
  • 107 developing countries, and 1.3 billion people, which is 22% of the world’s population, are living in multidimensional poverty.
