National Energy Conservation Day History

National Energy Conservation Day is observed on December 14, every year. It was first celebrated on December 14, 1991. In 1978 a governmental body was formed to promote energy efficiency and its conservation called Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA).
In 2001, the Energy Conservation (EC) Act was passed. Under the provisions of this act, The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) was formed in 2002, by the Government of India, to make people aware of Energy Conservation and its role in the development of the country.
The BEE sets the policies regarding consumption and use of energy. It operates under the Ministry of Power. Since then every year this day is celebrated and it plays a major role in spreading awareness about the conservation of Energy.
National Energy Conservation Day Importance

There is a lot of significance to this day as it is a good medium to make people aware of the upcoming challenges for us and our future generation as well, regarding climate change and global warming.
India is home to more than 130 crore people. With the growing population, industrialization has also been increasing to fulfil the needs of this population. Our development sectors are flourishing.
To increase industrialization and develop infrastructure, technology plays a key role. Use of technology in almost every sector is a basic requirement in today’s world, which leads to the demand for energy in every aspect.
Energy Efficiency refers to the use of technology that requires less energy to accomplish a task. For instance, use of LED (Light Emitting Diode) or CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light ) bulbs that use less energy instead of those incandescent light bulbs.
Using energy in an efficient manner is the only way to conserve it for our upcoming future generations. If we use it properly it will have a good impact on climate as well.
