The 15th edition of the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup began on Jan 13th (Friday). The event is hosted by India for the second time in a row. The matches are taking place at Orissa’s Bhubaneswar and Rourkela.
20 of the 44 matches of the Hockey World Cup 2023 will be played at Rourkela’s Birsa Munda Stadium while the remaining 22 matches will be played at Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium.
The group stage matches of the Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023, have come to an end on Jan 20. 16 Teams were divided into four Pools/Groups of four teams each. They played each other in the group stage with the winning team from each group qualifying for the quarterfinals.
The second and third-placed teams in each pool played an additional crossover round to make it to the quarterfinals.

The quarter-finals were held on Jan 24 & Jan 25.
Quarter-final 1: Australia vs Spain (Australia beats Spain 4-3 )

Quarter-final 3: England vs Germany (Germany beats England in the penalties 3-4)
Quarter-final 4: Netherlands vs South Korea (Netherlands beats South Korea 5-1)
Hockey World Cup Semi-Finals Results 2023
Australia, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands have qualified for the Semi-Finals after winning QF 1, QF2, QF3, and QF4 respectively.
Semi-Final 1: Australia Vs Germany (Germany beats Australia 3-4)

Hockey World Cup Final 2023
The FIH Man’s Hockey World Cup Final 2023 was played between Germany and Belgium at Kalinga Stadium on Jan 29, 2023, at 07:00 pm. While Australia and Netherlands played for third and fourth place in the points table.
Third and Fourth Place: Australia Vs Netherlands (Netherlands beats Australia 3-1)
Final: Germany Vs Belgium (Germany beats Belgium 5-4 in p.s.o)
Hockey World Cup Group Stage Matches India 2023
Host India won their first match against Spain and draws the second match against England. Indian team is placed along with England, Wales, and Spain in Group/Pool D.
In their final matches in the group stages, India beat wales 4-2 and finished second in the group whereas the top scorer England won 4-0 against Spain and has an edge over India on Goal Difference (GD).
With this, England qualified for the quarterfinals, on the other, India played the crossover round against New Zealand for a place in the Quarter-finals.
For the unversed, India has only one World Cup Title which came in 1975, the host will look to end its 48yrs drought.
