The Pro Kabaddi League, or PKL, is a professional Kabaddi League launched in 2014. The league’s inception was influenced by the popularity of the Kabaddi tournament at the 2006 Asian Games, and its format was influenced by the IPL, the T20 franchise cricket league of India.
At the start, there were doubts over the league’s success, noting that, unlike cricket, there were relatively fewer well-known players in Kabaddi. However, the inaugural season saw a viewership of a huge 43.5 crore, which was second to the 2014 IPL’s 55.2 crore viewership.
So far, there have been nine seasons of the Pro Kabaddi League, and the winner of the ninth season was the Jaipur Pink Panthers. Now PKL is back with a brand new season of 10, and it will mark the 10-year anniversary of the Pro Kabaddi League.
