The extraordinary true story of a late Hungarian shooter who overcame obstacles after suffering a catastrophic hand injury and won two Olympic gold supposedly served as the inspiration for R Balki’s Ghoomer.
The trailer for one of the most anticipated films of 2023, Ghoomer, by seasoned director R Balki, was revealed on Friday, and it gave fans goosebumps.
Fans are in a frenzy about the Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan sporting a coach’s helmet and actress Saiyami Kher from Mirzya and Choked playing a cricketer who loses her right arm just before making her international debut.
Karoly Takacs Story: Real Athlete Behind Ghoomer

R Balki’s Ghoomer is inspired by the extraordinary true-life story of a late Hungarian shooter who overcame obstacles after suffering a catastrophic hand injury and won two Olympic gold. Although Ghoomer is based on a true story, the narrative is fictional. The question is, who is the Hungarian shooter who served as the model for R. Balki’s Ghoomer? The answer is Karoly Takacs.
Following George Eyser in 1904 and Olivér Halassy in 1928, True Scoop News discovered that Karoly Takacs was just the third known physically challenged athlete to have competed in the Olympic Games.
She was then followed by Liz Hartel in 1952, Neroli Fairhall in 1984, and Oscar Pistorius in 2012. In the 25-meter rapid-fire pistol event, Karoly Takacs was the first shooter to win two Olympic gold medals, both using his left hand after suffering a serious injury to his right hand.
About Ghoomer Trailer
In the sports drama with Abhishek Bachchan, the actor plays a left-handed pitcher and an actor Saiyami Kher will play a para-athlete. Saiyami plays a cricket prodigy in the movie, which is built as an inspirational sports story and her coach in the movie is portrayed by Abhishek Bachchan.
The inspirational tale of a sportswoman and her coach who struggled against their religion to realize the “magical dream” is the focus of R Balki’s sports play Ghoomer. ‘Drunk’ Abhishek Bachchan can be heard asking, “Logically, can someone with just one hand play for the country”, as the teaser suggests. He replies, “No”.
Ghoomer, however, is not a logical narrative. The narrative centers on “magic.” The trailer tells the tale of Anina, an ambitious cricketer who joins the Indian squad.
Saiyami Reviews On Goomer

Karoly Takacs, a deceased right-handed shooter from Hungary, who won two Olympic gold medals with his left hand after suffering a major injury to his other hand, served as a loose inspiration for Ghoomer.
In a statement, Siyami said,
In Ghoomer, I play a role of a lefty bowler, yet I am a right-handed player in real life. Being an athlete myself, I could never truly put myself in the shoes of a para-athlete, but even the smallest obstacles I had to face made me aware of how much we take for granted.
Saiyami claims that the preparation and creation of Ghoomer “opened my view in a way that I had no idea was going to go into it”.It was a physically and emotionally trying time, but in comparison to the heroes who represent our nation in so many sports as para-athletes, my problems paled in comparison.
Regarding R Balki’s Flim ‘Ghoomer’
In R Balki’s film, Saiyami Kher will be seen as a paraplegic athlete. The film’s key actors are Abhishek Bachchan, Saiyami Kher, Shabana Azmi, and Angad Bedi, and is directed by the renowned R Balki.
The movie’s debut is set for August 18. Notably, Abhishek and his father Amitabh Bachchan have consistently played major roles in films directed by R Balki. R Balki previously worked with Abhishek Bachchan on the film Paa (2009). It’s interesting to note that Amitabh Bachchan portrayed Abhishek Bachchan’s son in that film.
