The renowned Ghazal singer and playback singer, Pankaj Udhas passed away at the age of 72. The Padma Shri award recipient, Pankaj Udhas was well-known for Chitthi Aayee Hai and the demise of the singer is huge to the music industry. Pankaj Udhas’s family recently made an official statement about the singer’s demise.
Today, on February 26, 2024, Pankaj Udhas’s daughter, Nayab, stated in an official statement on social media that, with a very heavy heart, they are saddened to inform the public of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on February 26 due to prolonged illness. As per some other reports, it was also confirmed that the last rites will be performed on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
It is also reported that the singer Pankaj Udhas passed away at 11 a.m. today at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, and it was believed that he was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago and was under treatment. The demise of the singer has saddened everyone, and people are paying tribute to him.
About Pankaj Udhas and his family
Pankaj was born on May 17, 1951, in Jetpur, Gujarat, to Keshubhai Udhas and Jituben Udhas. Pankaj Udhas was the youngest of three brothers, and all three of them were singers. Pankaj Udhas belonged to the town of Charkhadi in Rajkot and was from the family of Zamidaars. Pankaj Udhas studied at the Sir BPTI.
Afterwards, Pankaj Udhas moved to Mumbai with his family, where he was admitted to St. Xavier College of Mumbai. Pankaj Udhas’s father, Keshubhai Udhas, was a government employee and also used to learn to play Dilruba. Pankaj and his brothers have been into music since their childhood, so their father admitted them to the Sangeet Academy.
The prominent singer Pankaj Udhas was married to Farida Udhas in 1982. The couple Pankaj and Farida have two daughters, Nayaab Udhas and Reva Udhas. Also, Pankaj Udhas was survived by his brothers Nirmal Udhas and Manhar Udhas. However, detailed information about Pankaj Udhas’s personal life is not known.
Pankaj Udhas career
As Pankaj Udhas was into music and also learned music for so many years, he embarked on his musical career with the song Chandi Jaisa Rang hai Tera, sone jaise baal. Also, he sang the melodious song Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo on stage, his first stage performance at the time of the Sino-Indian War.
Pankaj Udhas trained for several years to play tabla, and after singing a few songs, he developed an interest in ghazals; he even learned Urdu to form his career as a ghazal singer. His first ghazal album was Aahati, which was released in 1980.
Since then, he has been featured in multiple videos and has sung multiple gazals. Some of his most popular ghazals include “Chitthi Aayi Hai,” “Aur Ahista Kijiye Baatein,” and “Na Kajre Ki Dhar.”
