This year India is hosting the 44th Chess olympiad at the chess capital of India, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The olympiad will be starting on 29th and will conclude on 10th August and it was organized by Tamil Nadu Government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event on 28th July and brilliant chess players from 187 countries will be participating in this competition. The event was originally scheduled in Moscow, Russia but as war broke down between Russia and Ukraine the was canceled and finally it is happening in India.
Where will the 44th Chess Olympiad match be played?
The 44th Chess Olympiad will be played at the Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort and Convention Centre, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Opening ceremony of the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the opening ceremony of the tournament on 28th July at 6 PM IST on Thursday and The matches of the Chess Olympiad 2022 will start at 3 PM IST on Friday (29th July 2022).

Thambi the Mascot:
Thambi is dressed in a white shirt and dhoti, and it is named as Thambi, which is a symbol of brotherhood to indicate that we are all one fraternity. Former Chief minister C N Annadurai used to call everyone as Thambi, hence the mascot was named in his honor,” current Chief Minister Stalin said.
