B.C. Archana Kalyani, an esteemed member of the 2007 batch of the Indian Forest Services, has passed away at the age of 50. Kalyani was widely recognized within the bureaucracy, holding the positions of Special Secretary to the Departments of Environment, Climate Change, and Forests and Director of the Tamil Nadu Biodiversity Conservation and Greening Project for Climate Change Response.

B.C. Archana Kalyani passed away after battling a long-term illness. Supriya Sahu, the Additional Chief Secretary to the Department of Environment, remarked that despite her health challenges, the late IFS officer consistently demonstrated readiness to work.
Archana Kalyani maintained a private personal life, with little information about her family. She gained prominence in 2018 when she took action against individuals involved in the unauthorized construction of roads in Jawadhu Hills, Tiruvannamalai district.
Subsequently, Tiruvannamalai collector K. S. Kandasamy commenced the process of transferring Archana and initiating departmental proceedings, alleging that her actions were impeding development efforts.
During this period, it was reported that Jamunamaruthur N. Vellaiyan also filed a complaint against Kalyani with the Chief Minister. Despite the controversy, Archana was eventually transferred. However, both she and the district collector declined to comment when approached by the media regarding the incident.
Previously, Ms. Archana held the position of Deputy Conservator of Forests in the Genetics Division in Coimbatore from July 2018 to July 2019. Before this role, she served as the District Forest Officer in Tiruvannamalai.
