A 31-year-old IIT Kanpur student named Vikas Meena died in his hostel room. Meena’s body was found hanging inside his hostel room on Wednesday night. His fellows from the university alarmed the authorities regarding the matter.
The authorities at IIT Kanpur conveyed the information to the Kalyanpur police station. The Station House Officer (SHO), Dhananjay Pandey, stated that the police were informed about the incident late on Wednesday night. Subsequently, a team was dispatched to the location, and they took custody of the body.
In a recent update, the administration mentioned that a forensic team has assessed the situation. The institute is now awaiting the police’s findings to determine the exact cause of death. This marks the second instance of suicide in the month. On December 12, 2023, Dr. Pallavi, a senior research staff member of the Department of Biological Sciences and Bio-Engineering, reportedly died by suicide.
