In a horrific incident that occurred in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri district, two minor girls from a Dalit family were found hanging from a tree outside a village in Nighasan area, on Wednesday, September 15, 2022.
Both girls aged 17 and 15 were sisters and were raped and murdered. The autopsy has confirmed that girls were first raped and then strangled and accused of this heinous crimes have been identified as Chotu, Junaid, Sohail, Hafizul, Karimuddin and Arif.

As per police, the sisters went willingly with Suhail and Junaid, the two main accused in the case, in their bikes, adding that they were friends, with the two mens, who hails from the neighboring village. On the other hand, the girls’ family has neglected this version of the police and said that the girls were kidnapped.
The mother of the victims had told them that they were abducted three hours before they were found dead. She also said that three young men forcibly took away her daughters in motorcycles. The Police have arrested six people for the rape and murder of two dalit sisters in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district on Thursday.
Reportedly, the girls were raped in a sugarcane field outside their village and when they insisted that the men marry them, they strangled them with their dupattas. Then they called their friends Karimuddin and Arif for help with their crime and then hung the bodies from the tree to make it look like suicide.
Police Arrested the Six Accused
On Thursday, September 15, 2022, a day after this incident, the Police arrested all six accused for sexually assaulting the two minor dalit sisters and then brutally murdering them. The police officers who are investigating the case have said that the accused Junaid was shot in his leg when he tried to run during the arrest.
Five out of six accused hailed from Lalpur Village while the sixth one named Chhotu alias Gautam was the neighbor of the victims. The accused were booked under the IPC Sections 303 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 452 (house trespass), 378 (theft), besides Sections 3 and 4 (sexual assault) of Protection of Children from Sexual offences (POSCO) Act.
Victims’ Father Demand Death Penalty
The father of the two victims have sought the death penalty for the accused hoping to prevent such crime in future. UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak vowed to take strict action against the accused and said that the Government would take such an action that the souls of their coming generations will also shiver. Justice will be given, he stated.
