Notorious gangster Mukhtar Ansari passed away at the age of 63 after being hospitalized on March 28. Ansari was in jail and his brother claimed that he was given a poisonous substance in his food. Afzal Ansari who is the brother of Mukhtar Ansari told PTI that he was given poison around 40 days ago as well.
In the aftermath of Mukhtar Ansari’s demise, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been enforced throughout Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, a significant contingent of police officers was stationed outside the hospital soon after Ansari’s admission.
Prashant Kumar, the Director General of Police for Uttar Pradesh, issued a statement indicating that additional police personnel, along with teams from the Central Reserve Police Force, have been deployed in various districts of UP such as Banda, Mau, Ghazipur, and Varanasi.
Mukhtar Ansari’s Death Reason?
According to reports, Mukhtar Ansari passed away due to a cardiac arrest. The five-time MLA was serving his jail term in Punjab when he complained of vomiting and was subsequently taken to Rani Durgavati Medical College by jail authorities.
The jail department also issued a statement explaining, “Due to sudden deterioration in prisoner Mukhtar Ansari’s health and an incident where he fell in the toilet during the night, prompt treatment was administered by the jail doctor. Upon informing the district administration, a team of doctors was summoned, and the prisoner was promptly referred to the medical college during the night.”
Cases on Mukhtar Ansari
Mukhtar Ansari, a notorious criminal, faced a total of 61 cases against him, including 15 related to murder. He began his criminal career by joining a gang in the 1980s before establishing his own in the 1990s.
Operating mainly in the Mau, Ghazipur, Varanasi, and Jaunpur districts, his gang was notorious for extortion and kidnapping. In 2004, Ansari was charged under the now-defunct Prevention of Terrorism Act after authorities discovered a machine gun in his hideout.
He had been incarcerated since the following year. In April 2023, he received a 10-year sentence for the murder of BJP MLA Krisnanand Rai. Additionally, on March 13 of the current year, he was handed a life term for his involvement in a fake gun license case dating back to 1990.
