UPSC examination is one in a million as almost millions of aspirants appear for the examination every year. Despite being considered one of the toughest examinations in India the youth of the country doesn’t hesitate to give up their everything for this examination.
Recently, a very senior economist Sanjeev Sanyal who has also been a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) said UPSC is a waste of time. Sanyal said UPSC exams should be a choice made only by those genuinely interested in becoming administrators.
On a podcast with Siddhartha Ahluwalia, Sanyal said too many young kids who have so much energy are wasting their time trying to crack the UPSC. “Yes, every country needs a bureaucracy. That’s perfectly fine. But I think lakhs of people spending their best years trying to crack an exam, where a tiny number of few thousand people going to get in, makes no sense,” he added.
Now, after this statement for Sanyal, people are divided into two groups: those who believe UPSC could be a life-changing experience and that it is not a waste of time. Others believe that UPSC is hyped and there’s no need for a huge population to appear for the examination when they can do much better in other fields.
