On April 15, in a shootout, Atique Ahmed and his brother Ashraf got killed. This incident took place on the night of April 15 when they both were taken for a medical test in Colvin Hospital, Prayagraj. Police has identified the killers and they are Lavlesh Tiwari, Arun Maurya and Sunny Singh.
Before this, his son Asad Ahmed was slain in a police encounter on 13th April. Asad Ahmed, who was wanted in the case of killing of lawyer Umesh Pal, has been killed in an encounter by the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF) in Jhansi.
Asad was killed in an encounter on the same day that Atiq Ahmad and his brother were brought before a Prayagraj court in connection with the case.

On December 14, 2016, Atique and his supporters attacked Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology, and Sciences staff members for taking action against two students who were barred from taking exams after being caught cheating.
The footage of Atique Ahmad beating SHUATS teachers and workers quickly got viral. On February 10, 2017, the Allahabad High Court summoned Atiq’s criminal records and directed the Allahabad Superintendent of Police to arrest all of the defendants in the case.
On February 11, Atiq was arrested and placed in judicial custody for 14 days.
