According to police records, two fans, Sapna Gill and Shobhit Thakur, approached cricketer Prithvi Shaw for a selfie at a posh hotel close to the Mumbai Airport, which is where the altercation allegedly started.
Shaw called his friend and the hotel management to request that the fans be taken away after a few pictures, but they wouldn’t back down and demanded more. A security officer allegedly told Gill and her friend to leave the area.
As Prithvi and his friend left the hotel, Sapna and her friends followed them, caught up with them at a stoplight close to Oshiwara, and broke the windscreen of their car. The two, along with a few others, allegedly smashed Shaw’s car with a baseball bat while Shaw and his friends were leaving the hotel.
Sapna Gill Arrested in Mumbai
After the alleged fight between Shaw and Sapna Gill, Gill was arrested on Thursday by the Mumbai police for allegedly attacking the car of cricketer Prithvi Shaw outside a luxury hotel in Santacruz on Wednesday night.
At least eight people have been named in a police case for allegedly charging Prithvi, breaking his BMW windscreen, and demanding Rs 50,000 by threatening to file a fake police case.
Based on Shaw’s complaint, the Oshiwara police have registered a case against the eight accused under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting), 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), and other offences.
