Ketaki Chitale is in Twitter trend again she granted bail by a court in Thane, Maharashtra, on June 22nd, she was accused of uploading an offensive social media post on NCP leader Sharad Pawar.
She was granted bail by district court judge HM Patwardhan with a deposit of Rs. 20,000 surety.
Who is Ketaki Chitale?
Ketaki Chitale, a famous Marathi, Indian actress who has worked in television series primarily and is famous for her lead role as Aboli in Star Pravah’s series, Ambat Goad got arrested in May for allegedly sharing offensive post on social media.
The bail plea was being heard by Additional Sessions Judge HM Patwardhan and the Crime branch had submitted a strong objection to bail plea. However, the prosecution later revised its opinion and submitted an additional statement in which they said that they would not object if Chilate were granted bail.
Police slammed for not following procedures
The judge criticised the police for not following the correct procedure when Ketaki Chitale was arrested, despite the fact that the whole judgement has not yet been made public.
Chitale’s attorney claimed at the hearing that she had not received a pre-arrest notice under Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The prosecution disagreed and insisted that the necessary notice had in fact been delivered.
However, the defence attorney emphasised that the notice was published immediately before her detention. With this information, the court was not pleased and criticised the police for going against the rules.
Judge also added that an investigation officer will be put under investigation for breaking the law.
Why and when was Ketaki arrested?
Chitale was arrested by Thane police on May 14, 2022, after she shared a Marathi verse on Facebook that was allegedly disrespectful to NCP leader Sharad Pawar.
Sections 500 (defamation), 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defaming), and 153A (promoting hatred between different groups on grounds of religion, residence, race, language, place of birth, etc) and 505 (2) (offensive statement made to harm someone) were all used to register the offence.
Ketaki Chitale is not new to controversy
Chilate faced more than 20 FIR’s and got free from one more last week, A district court granted Chitale’s bail last week in a separate case under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act) that was filed against her in the neighbouring Navi Mumbai in 2020.
The 29-year-old actress is currently the subject of over 20 FIRs for posting offensive matters on Facebook.
