Pakistan’s twelfth general election has concluded. Pakistan’s destiny will be determined by the outcome of these elections. According to the most recent information, Imran Khan’s PTI and Sharif’s PML-N are both failing to secure a majority, with no obvious winner having emerged thus far.
Although there’s no denying the fact that Pakistani elections are heavily influenced by the Pakistani Army. Thus, the Chief of the Pakistani Army, General Asim Munir, has supported Nawaz Sharif in his request for support from his opponents in forming a coalition government.
One of the most well-known news websites in Pakistan, Dawn, stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan has mandated re-elections at about fifty-two polling places due to accusations of election tampering. These re-elections are scheduled for February 15. Results for 256 of the 264 seats have been announced thus far. Among these, Imran Khan supports ninety-three independent candidates.
the PPP led by Bilawal Bhutto and the PML-N led by Nawaz Sharif have captured 54 and 73 seats, respectively. In Thursday’s election, supporters of imprisoned cricketer-turned-politician Khan’s party, which backed independents rather than running as a single bloc, got the most seats overall, but Sharif’s party has secured the most seats by far.
Is Nawaz Sharif the Top Choice for Prime Minister of Pakistan?
Among all the popular faces, Nawaz Sharif is the strongest contender, as it is being claimed that the Pakistani military will favor him. Apart from that, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is another popular leader and prime minister candidate. But it will be interesting if Bhutto or Sharif forms a coalition government or not.
The former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is the most popular among all, has been barred from participating in the elections. He was appointed as the PM of Pakistan in 2018, and in 2022 he was removed from the position. Currently, he is in jail along with his wife, Bushra Bibi.
All reports claim that Nawaz Sharif is the first choice of the Pakistan Army for the prime ministerial position. This is not the first time Nawaz Sharif is contesting the general elections. If Nawaz Sharif becomes the Prime Minister this time, it will be his fourth term. He is the only Pakistani minister who has held the chair a record three times.
Nawaz Sharif has recently come back from exile. If he becomes the PM of Pakistan, then there are chances that people in Pakistan and the PTI might protest against him.
