Actor Tovino Thomas “2018” grossed 100 cr+ Wolrdwide, and now makers decided to release this in Hindi language. This was one of the ambitious projects of filmmaker Jude Anthany Joseph, known for directing critically acclaimed films like Ohm Shanthi Oshaana and the romantic comedy film “Sara’s” which was released last year on Amazon Prime Video.
Presented by Kavya Films in association with P.K. Prime Production, “2018” is based on the true event of the 2018 Kerala Flood, shows how Keralites stayed united and fought together against the flood that turned the lives of thousands of people upside down.
‘2018’ Hindi Release Date
Talks to start the project was going on before the pandemic but had to stop due to the COVID outbreak. In 2022, the team officially kicked off its production with a revised cast and crew as well as story line.
Finally ‘2018’ was released on 5th of May, received critical acclaim and set new Box Office records at Malayalam Box Office, becomes 3rd highest grossing Malayalam movie (with Worldwide Gross Rs 135 Cr) after Lucifer (2019) and Pulimurugan (2016).

Talking about the film, Jude tells that there were many uncertainties regarding it until the release of his film “Sara’s” but its success encouraged him to work on his ambitious project based on the horrific incident, and lit it had given the title “2018”.
On November 4, 2022, the title of the film was revealed through a poster of the film. Along with the title, the poster also features the tagline, “Everyone is a Hero”. Sharing the title and poster, Tovino Thomas wrote, “The story of the brave Keralites who fought together the flood that drenched the state in 2018”.

The film has an ensemble star cast that includes some of the most promising actors from the industry, including Thovino Thomas, who was last seen in “Thallumaala,” Kunchako Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Aparna Balamurali, Kalaiyarasan, Narein, Lal, Indrans, and Aj Varghese in key roles.
About the Film
Produced by Venu Kunnapilly, CK Padmakumar, and Anto Joseph, the film is about how Malayalis faced the flood together, irrespective of caste, religion, and party differences, in 218 when half of the state came under water due to the deadly flood.
The unusual rainfall led to the calamity, which took around 500 lives and left thousands of people missing. It is said to be the worst flood in Kerala in nearly a century.
