Multiple award- winning Tamil megastar Vijay Sethupathi will soon be back with another exciting project Maamanithan.
Sethupathi is a big name in the Kollywood film industry and his fans referred to him as Makkal Selvan which means People’s treasure. He was last seen in a major cameo role in M. Manikandan’s Kadaisi Vivasayi.
The actor has many films in the pipeline for this year and the upcoming year such as Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, Vikram, Merry Christmas, 19 (1)(a), Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir, Viduthalai, Gandhi Talks and Mumbaikar.
If we talk about Maamanithan, it is directed as well as written by Seenu Ramaswamy, who also directed the drama film Thenmerku Paruvakaatru, which was the first movie of Sethupathi as the lead actor. Popular composer Yuvan Shankar Raja is producing the film under his YSR Productions in association with Shan Sutharasan.
Ramaswamy signed Sethupathi for the film after the success of his 2016 coming-of-age drama film Dharma Durai starring actress Tamannaah along with Sethupathi in lead roles.
Maamanithan Star Cast
Along with Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi who is playing the male lead as Radha Krishnan, the film also stars actress Gayathrie Shankar as the female lead, who is best known for her role in black comedy Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012).
The actress will be seen in Prabhu Deva starrer psychological thriller Bagheera and comedy film Titanic Kadhalum Kavundhu Pogum along with Kalaiyarasan.
Along with the leading star cast, the film also features veteran actress K.P.A.C. Lalitha, Guru Somasundaram, Shaji Chen, Jewel Mary, Anikha, Ganja Karuppu, Manasvi Kottachi, Saravana Sakthi.
Technical Team and Sound Track
On the technical front, the film has cinematography by M. Sukumar and editing by Sreekar Prasad.
The film is bankrolled by Shan Sutharasan and young composer Yuvan Shankar Raja, who also composed its music and score along with his father veteran music composer Ilaiyaraaja and brother Karthik Raja. It is the first film that brought the Raja family together.
On April 7, 2021, the first single of the film, titled Thattiputta was released by Yuvan Shankar Raja through his independent music label U1 Records. It was sung by his father Ilaiyaraaja.
Another single titled Ye Rasa was released on May 28, 2021, which was sung by Yuvan himself. Both the songs have lyrics by Pa.Vijay.
Earlier, Vairamuthu was approached for the project as lyricist but had been out due to his fall out with Ilaiyaraaja and also the allegations of sexual harassment against him.
Maamanithan Release Date
The film was scheduled for its release in September and October 2019, but was delayed due to a case filed against its producers by Jayaseelan who earlier registered the same title for his film.
Later, it was said that the producers had started negotiations with streaming platforms Zee5, which has acquired the digital streaming rights of the movie.
However, all these claims turned out to be false, as the film will skip direct digital release and is going for theater release on May 20th. Actor and distributor RJ Suresh has bagged the theatrical rights of the movie and released the film in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Finally, it was released on ’24 June 2022′ and now available on Aha:
