Organised by the Multiplex Association of India (MAI), in association with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), National Cinema Day is being celebrated to mark the successful opening of movie theatres post the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The day will be observed as a drive to bring back audiences into theaters. According to the statement of Multiplex Association of India, it is also a gesture of gratitude towards the moviegoers as they facilitated the reopening of theatres after a dull phase during the pandemic induced lockdown period.

National Cinema Day Date 2022 Date

The date of celebrating National Cinema Day has been postponed. The MAI, which had earlier decided to celebrate it on Thursday, September 16, 2022, has now announced that it has been postponed by a week and will be celebrated on September 23, 2022.

The association took to its twitter handle to make this announcement. In the statement posted by the association, it stated that the decision of postponing the date came after the request from various stakeholders and to maximise the participation is the other factor behind it.

Ticket Price

The celebration will be held at more than 4000 participating screens and will include cinema screens of PVR, INOX, Cinepolis, Carnival, Miraj, Citypride, ASIAN, Mukta A2, Movie Time, Wave, M2K, Delite and many others.

The theatre owners are celebrating this event as a thank you gesture to moviegoers and through the initiative, the cinema halls also want to invite those people who have still not decided on going to theatres post pandemic.

So, to attract more and more audiences into the theatres and express their gratitude towards all the moviegoers, MAI is offering a special price for movie tickets. The tickets will cost just Rs. 75 on September 23, 2022 in participating cinema screens and it is the best opportunity to enjoy movies at a lower cost.

The National Cinema Day was previously announced to be held on 16th September, however, on request from various stake holders and in order to maximize participation, it would now be held on 23rd September #NationalCinemaDay2022 #Sep23 pic.twitter.com/c5DeDCYaMD

Is Brahmastra Movie Behind the Delay in NCD?

While, MAI gave a different explanation for the National Cinema Day being postponed, several netizens said the move to postpone the day was taken due to the massive response of the audience to the recently released sci-fi film Brahmastra: Part 01: Shiva.

Seeing the gradually increasing income of the movie, the cinema hall requested MAI to postpone the celebration for a week. Well, whatever the reason, cinephiles are surely going to grab the opportunity and will surely go to watch the movie at a low price.

Movies on 23rd of Sep

Two Bollywood movies Chup and Dhokha are clashing on this date, the ticket price will be only Rs 75 for whole day, Advance booking reports for other major movie like Brahmastra, Avatar Re-Release positive.
