On Saturday morning, Sonam Kapoor took to Twitter to express her displeasure regarding the remake of ‘Mr India’. As per her tweets, neither her dad Anil Kapoor nor Shekhar uncle had any information about the remake of their iconic film ‘Mr India’.
She said that they had learned about the remake through social media when Director Ali Abbas Zafar tweeted bout the remake. Sonam said that the film has been a part of her ‘father’s legacy’.

It’s so sexist to call a woman’s well worded statement a rant . Get a new copy writer. https://t.co/i1SgKippGd

Sonam K Ahuja’s tweet didn’t go down well with a popular media house daily that quickly churned out click-bait article slamming the actress for ‘ranting’ on Twitter. A furious Sonam Kapoor, took to Twitter to slam the writer for penning an ad copy that ‘smells of sexism, poor taste and tacky greed’. She called out the copywriter for terming ‘a woman’s well-worded statement’, a ‘rant’.
Sonam’s ‘Veere Di Wedding’ co-star and best friend Swara Bhasker also supported her friend as she took down the media house. Her fans too supported her on Twitter.
A rant as in 'impassioned speech' which I believe is the right term. How was it sexist? Read the piece. It's not a marketing campaign or PR piece as she claims in her older tweet.
It has no bearing on gender at all. And what's this get a new copy writer.

.@sonamakapoor 's statement on #MrIndia remake and I agree it is extremely disrespectful to @AnilKapoor sir and Mr @shekharkapur (who were the pillars of the iconic #MrIndia ) by not bothering to even inform them pic.twitter.com/5Nez8NSd3p

Creators > copyright holders, always. I stand with @shekharkapur and @AnilKapoor.

Although Sonam’s tweet has gathered positive attention, there is a lot of Netizens who’re slamming the actress down for completely missing out on Sri Devi’s name who duly contributed to the success of ‘Mr India’. Sonam is also being bashed for losing out on feminity plot completely. Ironically, Boney Kapoor, her uncle has happily given away the rights of the film to Zee Studios for a hefty amount. The Netizens have been asking Sonam to ‘talk to Uncle Boney Kapoor’ before mud-slinging on the makers of the new ‘Mr India’.
What a way to get attention? Didi, ur own uncle is the co-producer of this movie. Why don't u ask him?
And why only anil or shekhar.?why not satish kaushik, aftav shibdasini or ahmed khan?— Suryaansh(बेलालसेन/ବେଲାଳସେନ) (@belalasena08) February 22, 2020
How bigoted this tweet is at so many levels? Is #MrIndia ur fathers creation only? Lot of people right from technician to character aritsts to set design to musicians all hav contributed! And not to forget d legend #Sridevi ( #Hawahawai)
Its not ur dad’s film alone @sonamakapoor https://t.co/JQj25OPnlO— Gaurav Rajput (@PartapGaurav) February 22, 2020

The privelage these filmy families exhibit, as if they have a right to everything. The movie doesn’t belong to anyone except for the rights holder. No one owes you shit. The Ks are just pissed because they think they could have used Mr India to relaunch their laadla’s career.

Sonam’s Kapoor’s disgusted attitude coupled with Shekhar Kapur’s angst and Anil Kapoor’s silence has urged a Twitter conversation where Bollywood celebrities and fans are voting against the remake of the monumental film. According to popular opinion, the fans of the film are strictly against remaking ‘Mr India’ and some are even agitated that director Shekhar Kapoor and lead actor Anil Kapoor were never informed about the recent developments.
What are your thoughts on the entire ‘Mr India’ 2020 fiasco?
