Salman speculated to suggest replacing Maneshinde with Amit Desai, senior advocate to defend Aryan’s bail hearing today.
The king of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan, is all over the news since his arrest on October 3, following NCB’s raid at Cordelia cruise ship on October 2. He was detained along with seven others included in the rave party.
The senior lawyer was roped in to represent the star kid in no time. Satish Maneshinde is considered to be one of the most expensive criminal lawyers in India. He is said to charge around Rs. 10 lakh per hearing.
He started his celebrity journey in 1993 with Sanjay Dutt for his Bombay Blast case and got him acquitted. In Dutt’s Arms Act case of 2007, Maneshinde was one of the members of his legal team. The actor was charged with possession of illegal weapons.
Maneshinde started his career as a junior lawyer under the tutoring of Ram Jethmalani, who was one of the best lawyers of the time. He worked under him for at least a decade and took charge of many cases, including from Bollywood. He was also responsible for releasing Salman Khan out on bail during his 2002 hit-and-run case. He is said to have defended him even in his 1998 blackbuck poaching case.
Recently, he defended Rhea Chakraborty on her ‘abetment to suicide case’, which was charged against her by Sushant Singh Rajput’s family after the actor hanged himself to death in June 2020. He has also represented the drama queen of Bollywood, Rakhi Sawant, over her abetment to suicide case.
His newest stint included his involvement in the Aryan Khan arrest case. The NCB had seized 13 grams of cocaine, five grams of MD, 21 grams of hash, and 22 pills of Ecstasy, and Rs 1.33 lakh from the cruise ship. Maneshinde argued that the star kid wasn’t in possession of any of the above.
Why has SRK decided to replace Maneshinde with Amit Desai?
Though Maneshinde has been B-town’s go-to lawyer every time, King Khan decided to replace him with senior advocate Amit Desai after his bail plea got rejected the third time on October 8, Friday.
Desai was present in his October 11 hearing, where the court had deferred his hearing to October 13. The senior official said, “Aryan has already been in jail for a week now. I’m only fighting for a date and not bail. Bail hearing should not be dependent on the investigation”.
He further added, “The investigation should not hinder someone’s liberty and as far as his sentence is concerned, it can only be for a maximum of one year”.
Amid SRK’s sudden change in the legal team, people have been speculating that the superstar took Salman’s advice in replacing Maneshinde with Desai, who was responsible for getting Salman acquitted in 2002 hit-and-run case.
