Biopics are the most loved genre in Indian cinema, as people live to watch the journey of inspiring personalities. We have seen many biopics based on sportspersons, army officers, and politicians.
Now, another biopic is set to make its way to theatres on December 9. We are talking about the pan-Indian film Vijayanand, based on Indian entrepreneur and Padma Shree awardee Vijay Snakeshwar. Originally made in Kannada, the film is set to be released in dubbed Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, and Malayalam versions, apart from Kannada.
About Vijay Sankeshwar
Vijay Sankeshwar, the man who is behind the inspiration for the upcoming film, is a popular Indian businessman and is known for being the owner of the largest fleet of commercial vehicles in India. He, along with his son Anand Sankeshwar, is the chairman of India’s largest logistics firm, VRL Group.
He was born in the Gadag district of Karnataka to Basavanneppa Sankeshwar and Chandrawwa Sankeshwar. He began his career as an entrepreneur in 1966, when his gifted him the family printing press business on his 16th birthday.
In order to expand his family business, he founded Vijayanand Roadlines, a new business of transporting goods in Karnataka, in 1976.Reportedly, by 1990, he had generated annual profits worth Rs. 4 crore and had a fleet of 117 vehicles.
Today, he is known as the owner of the largest fleet of commercial vehicles in India. Apart from that, he also owns a news channel, Digvijay24X7, and the Kannada newspaper Vijay Vani, with more than 8 lakh copies sold every day.
He is also quite active in politics and is a member of the BJP. However, he left the party once and founded the Kannada Nadu Party. He later joined the Karnataka Janata Paksha, which later merged with the BJP. He was also the MP from the North Dharwad constituency and a member of the BJP.
In 2020, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, for his contribution to the country’s development.

About the Film
The film, directed by Rishika Sharma of “Trunk” fame, stars Nihal R. in the titular role, and it also stars Bharath Bopanna, Anant Nag, Ravi Chandran, Prakash Belawadi, Siri Prahalad, Archana Kottage, and Anish Kuruvilla, among others.
It will depict Vijay Sankeshwar’s incredible and inspiring journey, starting from a humble beginning with owning a truck to making it India’s largest logistic fleet. His son Anand Saneshwar is backing the project under his VRL films, marking his production debut.
