RTI Revelation ; More Than 13000 Deaths In STH Within A Span Of 9 Years

In a big revelation, about 13187 deaths have been reported in a prominent hospital of Uttarakhand within a span of nine years.

This startling revelation has come to notice in an RTI disclosure and name of that hospital is Susheela Tiwari Hospital. STH is supposed to be the most prominent hospital of Kumaon region. During this period, about 60000 cases of fracture were reported in this hospital who had come here for a plaster done on their injured organs.

A resident of Haldwani and RTI activist Hemant Gaunia had asked the concerned officials of this hospital through this act to furnish details of the total deaths recorded so far since the formation of Uttarakhand as a separate state. Besides this, details of total plasters done on fractured bones and income-expenditure during this period were also asked.

In response to this RTI inquiry, the hospital management said in its reply dated 8th May that more than 13000 deaths were recorded in this hospital within a span of 9 years. Apart from this, on an average 15 to 20 cases of bone fracture come daily in this hospital. Hospital has given an exact figure of 13187 deaths during this period. In the year 2010, a total of 815 deaths were recorded within a period of eight months. The toll was highest in 2015 when it reached to 1784.

In the year 2019, a total of 490 deaths have been recorded from January up to 30 April. The management has said that patients themselves pay the bill incurred on the treatment of bone fractures on cash counters. As per hospital details, a total budget of Rs. 6,16,30,54,707 has been allotted so far to the hospital from 2010 to 2019 and the total expense has done by the hospital during this period is Rs. 5,00,88,97,563.
