Tamil megastar Ajith Kumar is back on the big screen with his much-hyped Tamil heist thriller film Thunivu, almost 11 months after the release of his 2022 action thriller film Valimai.
Directed and written by H. Vinoth, Thunivu releases in the Pongal week, getting positive responses. Hence, it is time for a double celebration for all Ajith Kumar fans. It is produced by ace producer Boney Kapoor under his Bayview Projects LLP in association with Zee Studios.
Thunivu was officially announced in February 2022, a few days before the release of Valimai, with the tentative title “AK61,” for being Ajith’s 61st project as the main lead. A major part of the film is shot in Hyderabad and Bangkok.
Thunivu Screen Counts
As per trade analyst and film critic Ramesh Bala, Tamil Nadu has 1000 screens in total, and since the TN box office has witnessed the clash between two megastars, Ajith and Vijay, the screens have been divided equally.
However, Ajith’s Thunivu seems more appealing to the audience and the distributors than Vijay’s Varisu; the screen counts for the former lie between 550 and 575, whereas Varisu has been given around 480 to 500 screens.
Thunivu Vs Varisu Clash
The Tamil audience is witnessing one of the biggest box-office clashes which eventually comes in favour of the Tamil industry garnering a huge amount of footfall.
The same is happening at the box office Tamil right now with both the biggies churning out big moolah.
Thunivu Box-Office Collection Day 5
The trade reports suggest that Thunivu has grossed the 100 Cr mark at the box office worldwide on Sun (day 5).
As per a report on Sacnilk.com, Thunivu registered over 74% Tamil occupancy rate on Sun accumulating in the range of 11.5-12.5 Cr nett for a total worldwide collection of 105-110 Cr gross.
Thunivu Box Office Collection(India): Day 1- Rs 24.4 Cr nett, Day 2- Rs 11.8 Cr nett, Day 3- Rs 8.3 Cr nett, Day 4- Rs 11 Cr nett, Day 5- Rs 12 Cr nett**(early estimates).
Thunivu Needs 50 Cr to BE
Note that, Thunivu’s break-even target was valued at 85 crores shares (Rs 160 Cr+ gross), reportedly. Therefore, it still needs to earn over 50 Cr gross to emerge as a hit at the box office.
The film needs to show a good trend during the weekdays to complete the break-even target.
Film critic Ramesh Bala gave the film 4 out of 5, with all praises for Ajith’s performance, the super visuals, the terrific action, and H. Vinoth’s direction. Check out the Twitter response below:
