What is B Tech?
The full form of BTech is Bachelor of Technology. Before we discuss the engineering disciplines in detail, let’s understand what engineering and technology actually mean:
“Engineering is the branch of study that uses scientific principles to design and build machines, structures, and other things, including bridges, dams, roads, vehicles, and buildings.”
“Technology is the sum of techniques, skills, methods, and processes used for the development of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives or any task.”
The B.Tech. is a 4-year course that is offered in various specialisations and disciplines. The B.Tech. study deals with science and technology. Many candidates believe that B.Tech. and BE are the same course, although there are significant differences between these two programmes. BTech is a skill- and data-driven field; the course focuses on applied engineering, whereas BE focuses on theory and knowledge. It is theoretical research.
B Tech Eligibility Criteria 2024
The basic eligibility criteria for pursuing B.Tech are-
- Candidates should have passed the 12th grade with physics, chemistry, and mathematics subjects.
- Candidates should have English and any two other subjects in 12th grade.

B Tech Admission 2024
B Tech Admission 2024 is done based on B.Tech. entrance exams. The most common and widely accepted engineering entrance exam is JEE Main, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The JEE Main Exam is held every year for admission to NITs, IIIT CFTIs, state government-aided, and private engineering colleges in the country. The students who clear the JEE Main can appear for the JEE Advanced, which is conducted for admission to IITs.
The basic qualification for BTech is 10+ 2 with PCM stream. Just like any other course, the B.Tech admission is held in given stages.
Step 1: Apply for the Engineering Entrance Examinations (JEE, WBJEE, KCET, VITEEE, UPES, MET, etc.) on their official portals.
Step 2: Appear for the online exam. Most of the universities conduct the exam in multiple sessions.
Step 3: On the basis of the results, apply for the counselling sessions. Aspirants seeking admission to IITs and NITs must participate in the JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority).
Step 4: The counselling board assigns institutions and courses to students based on the merit list, entrance exam scores, and the category into which each candidate falls.
Step 5: The final stage is document verification and fee submission.
